From the moment you step inside, you'll notice the warm, inviting atmosphere. It's not your typical busy, fast-paced coffee shop; rather, it’s a place where you can unwind and take your time, whether you're catching up with a friend or just enjoying a quiet moment alone. The rustic yet modern decor, with its wooden accents and bright natural light, makes for the perfect backdrop to sip on a freshly brewed cup.

They offer a variety of espresso drinks, from classic lattes to more inventive options like iced cortados or a refreshing cold brew. If you're into something a little sweeter, their seasonal specials are always a treat. On my last visit, I tried their caramel latte, and it was perfectly balanced-rich coffee flavor with just the right amount of sweetness, not overpowering.

If you're looking for something to munch on, they've got you covered too. Their pastries are baked fresh daily, and you’ll often find unique options, like almond croissants or gooey cinnamon rolls that pair beautifully with any coffee. For those with more specific dietary preferences, Second State Coffee also offers a selection of vegan and gluten-free options, so there’s something for everyone.

Service here is always friendly, and the baristas are happy to share recommendations or customize your order if you’re feeling adventurous. The staff’s knowledge of the coffee blends is evident, and they’re always happy to chat about the different roasts available or guide you to your next favorite drink.

Whether you're here to fuel up before a busy day or take a mid-afternoon break, the café's relaxed atmosphere makes it the perfect destination.

The location is also ideal for anyone in Mt. Pleasant, as it's tucked away from the hustle of the more tourist-heavy spots but still close enough to be convenient. If you find yourself in the area, a stop at Second State Coffee should definitely be on your list.

What People's Say About Place

Sweetest staff, made my child’s day made a design on her hot chocolate! How cool. Food was delicious. The fall French toast was amazing with apples on top

Great spot for coffee after work! I got the maple cardamom coffee because I’m a sucker for a fun drinks but they make all of their syrups in house so you really can’t go wrong either way. Stopped here on my way home after work and thought the latte was very yummy!

Great local coffee place. The customer service is great. The staff was very welcoming and acknowledged everyone as soon as you walk in the door. The coffee and food are amazing. The set up of the inside is very nice and flows well. It's definitely a hidden gem in Mt Pleasant. I'll definitely be back especially because it's so close to my office and I like the coffee

Went here twice on our trip to Charleston, the coffee is good and the food and pastries are pretty good too. Only complaint is that the food seems a bit over priced, however it’s nothing unusual for a coffee shop.

Cute place to get some coffee and brunch. My friend and I came here around noon on a weekday and it was packed. Every seat was pretty much full, but we found space for us on the long wooden bench. I got the Smoked Salmon Toast and the Iced Lavender Latte with oat milk. The toast was delicious and my latte was pretty good. My favorite part of the toast was the pickled onions. If the toast had a little bit more pickled onions then the dish would be perfect to me, but that's just my preference. The inside was pretty. I was surprised at how fast we got our food and drinks. We could only sit in one place together with our things, so I didn't like the seating options (or really lack of). Wifi was really slow for me, and it didn't work for my friend. Because of how many people were in there, it didn't really feel relaxed. So my experience felt rushed when I originally wanted to stay for a bit, enjoy my food, and be a little productive. If it weren't for that and the wifi issues, I'd give it 5 stars.

The pour-overs are smooth and thoughtful, though sometimes you wonder if they’re judging your order. The space? All exposed brick and sunlight, perfect for pretending to work while actually just Instagramming your latte. The seasonal pastries disappear fast, so you’d better commit before someone else does.

Great coffee shop with plenty of seating in a central location. The baristas behind the counter gave me my drink and I thought they made a mistake by giving me a cup that an artist drew on- nope, it was just from them doodling the sickest drawing ever on a cup. I would leave more stars but I left them a tip instead. I’ll be back for more

I recently stopped by and ordered a Cortado with the Brown Sugar syrup. The atmosphere was friendly and the service was fast. My coffee was really good and I plan on adding them to my list of go to coffee places in Mt P.
